Name Re-Claimed
You can kick rocks, darlin’. I’m not here to be liked. I’m here to speak truth. This isn’t a performance, a cry for attention, or a pretty story wrapped in healing language. This is a record. A reckoning. A beginning. This is dedicated to my mother, who would be 63 today. My #1 abuser and my #1 teacher in survival. Not a contradiction, a bloodline truth. She was the storm that broke me and the force that built me. Pain was our inheritance. Strength is my return. Some of you w

Getaway
Got up at 3:15 this morning to get to the airport for my flight to Cancun. Not my first time out of the country, but my first time at a beach resort for vacation. I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time. My husband was never a beach or pool person. The bulk of our vacations were motorcycling, fishing or sightseeing, which we always enjoyed together, but seldom ended at a beach or a pool. After walking out of the hell of the past few years, it’s time to get away fo

Twists and Turns
Life comes with its share of twists and turns. Some you see coming, others catch you off guard and make you question if you are even on the right road. What Do I Write About?
It’s my turn to write a post. As I’m typing, I’m still trying to figure out what I’m going to write about today. So, I re-read Alice’s last post. Although I could relate to all of it, nothing pinged me to write about. Alice did an excellent job describing what it’s like to function with chronic pain or other serious diagnosis. The reactions of people who don’t know what it’s like and what we face when we keep trying to live our lives instead of sitting down and crying.

Living with an Invisible Diagnosis
This is sitting heavy with me right now, so I’m sharing it, because I know I’m not alone. I want others in similar circumstances to know they’re not alone either. Invisible diagnoses. I have many, and I know others do as well. For me, it’s not hard to recognize the ones who suffer or even the ones who pretend they don’t simply by how they carry themselves in their day-to-day lives. The hardest part is that unless you’re with people who share similar experiences, most don’t un

Child of the 60s
Just for fun the other day I decided to try ChatGPT. I had the option of trying a conversation where ChatGPT would ask a few questions and prepare a brief paragraph that would describe me. It sounded intriguing and I wondered what it would come up for me. So I decided to give it a shot. Here’s how the conversation went generally and what it came up with. ChatGPT: What is your favorite hobby? Chick: Motorcycling ChatGPT: Do you like to ride by yourself in peace or do you
