The Fire Just Got Hotter
A lot has happened over the last week. As I was approaching my appointment with the hand specialist for my thumb, I started assessing the state of my hand and observing closely what was happening so I could explain it to the doctor in somewhat of a coherent manner. I figured he would want more information than “it fucking hurts and I can’t ride my motorcycle, or do anything else, quite frankly!!!” From my urgent care visit I had learned that the joint at the base of my righ

Bariatric Surgery for Media
Pete and I just had bariatric surgery (for weight loss) a couple weeks ago. It was, and still is, an interesting journey. Since Pete and I had surgery on the same day, with the same surgeon, back to back, the hospital staff were all very amused. It's not every day that they see a couple doing this together. It just made sense to us. We get to heal together, have the same diet, and support each other while knowing exactly what each other feels like. We went in at the god awful

Marching On
Seasons, time, life, all of these just keep marching on. Ever going, never stopping. Things keep moving on whether you want them to or not. Things out of the control of everyone. One second, one minute, one day, month, year…you get the point. All you can do someday is hold on and see where the ride takes you. It’s one of the hard lessons of life you learn as you get older. As a kid you think you have all the time in the world. Sure you understand that things come to an end an

Peanut Butter and Jelly
That’s what I had for dinner when finally, at 8:00 tonight, I gave in to my stomach and fixed myself something to eat. When all else fails, it’s peanut butter and jelly. As I was eating I started getting ready to write this blog. I opened up my folder to start a new one, saw my post from last week and decided to read again what I had wrote. Maybe kind of a refresh on where I was. By the time I finished reading I thought “Man, that was some heavy stuff going on with me…wh

The Worst Part…
The worst part of telling your story as a survivor would have to be holding the guilt of hurting people you love, regardless of what they have done to you. Knowing there is a cause and effect for everything. Knowing that even standing your ground and shining your light will burn some of the people you once held closest to your heart because they were your mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, sister, brother, cousin, aunt, uncle, husband, wife, in-laws, best friend, boyfr

I’m baaack…
It’s been awhile since I posted. The longest break I’ve had since we started this whole thing. Many thanks to Alice and Kevin for stepping in and giving me the time and energy to get through the garage sale. Since I haven’t posted in a while, a person would think I would have a whole lot to say. Turns out, I do. Fortunately for you though, most of it will have to wait. I’m still sorting out a lot of it as the last 10 days or so have been pretty intense physically, mental

Preparations
As we start to approach the end of summer and start transitioning into fall, you begin to notice things changing. I’m often drawn to watch the wildlife this time of year. The changes in their behavior, the little things they do here and there, the way they shift with the seasons. The migrating birds start to gather in larger groups and flocks to get ready for the long flight ahead, building the group until instinct tells them it’s time to go. The smaller animals, like squirre

I Despised Becoming a Woman
So, Chick is running a garage sale to help raise funds for the 50 state Bike ride. I am writing in her place. Which, lucky readers I am in a spicy mood today. Been sitting with a lot as more history presents itself. Going through files upon files of my own history, my mother’s history, my family history, history of my family unit and all our trials and tribulations. From Certifications, Diplomas, Medical reports, police reports, court proceedings, Sheriff's reports, Psych Eva

Quiet Time
I am unsure what to write about, so I suppose the state I am in is the best place to start. I can feel the season turning, and a type of nesting happening. Naturally. I know I’ll be inside, and there are tons of things to prepare for that couldn’t be done during spring and summer. Those are times for movement. I have made a place for me to settle into and study with Sunny, my S.A.D. lamp. Started some classes, getting some books in line to read. Adapting and changing my routi

Ride Ahead
The 50-state ride is about eight months away at this point. A lot of work has been put into all of it, and work continues to get everything lined up and ready for Alice and Chick to hit the road on May 1, 2027. It has not been an easy path thus far, and there are plenty of obstacles that still lie ahead. Over the course of planning for the bike ride, there have been challenges involving the route, the schedule, farms, stops at other locations, and so on. Each one carries its

Short and Sweet…
That’s this post. That fight with my right hand last week just collided with my fight a few weeks previous to that with accepting that age [has] impacted both my physical and mental capabilities…it’s the normal aging process, I’m there, but I’m still capable of achieving my dreams, just maybe need to operate with a few different parameters than I did in my 30’s, 40’s, and even into my 50’s. The result of that collision?…overdoing it, overdid it…an extremely painful flare up

Notes to self
Notes, little reminders through out your day and life that are often there to help you. I for one use a lot of notes through out my day. I go through a stack of post its about once every 2 weeks. Part of it is the busy life, others are sometimes I get easily distracted. They are there to help me remember things that need to get done, things that are important, things to look into, etc. It helps keep things organized, but the down side is that sometimes the little notes become

Have You Ever Fought Your Right Arm?
I did. It was a really interesting experience, so I gotta tell you all about it. I’ve mentioned many times the time I spend playing my game on my tablet and how therapeutic it is for me. Using my best strategy to beat them at their own game gives me a great deal of satisfaction and keeps my mind busy enough that I’m actually able to process thoughts and emotions from my day. My mind and my hands need to be busy. I can’t just sit and be. My mind runs wild if it’s not othe
