Summer

Finally! Such a beautiful weekend. Not riding yet, but at least I was able to spend the weekend outdoors. Saturday we hosted the Kickoff BBQ for our motorcycle club. This is always a fun event. We have our monthly meeting followed up by a potluck and grilling the absolute best tomato basil chicken from a local meat market. We do the same every year. Everyone enjoys it. Since the chicken is marinated you can’t hardly dry it out while making sure it’s fully cooked. Makes me look really good as a griller. We were able to spend the day on the patio. Actually, if I’m being honest, I spend most nice days on the patio. It’s thrilling to be outside after being cooped up all winter.

We always spend part of this meeting reading and discussing our Road and Trip rules. Things always happen on the road and it’s always beneficial to discuss incidents from last year and determine whether we need to add guidelines for events on the road. The discussion this year was about people leaving the pack unexpectedly. Since we’re mostly older now, it usually involves a need for a pee stop. The Road Captain watches and counts to make sure everyone is still with us. So sometimes there’s confusion and we discussed the best way to handle it. We’ve had these discussions before, so this time we added a procedure to our Trip Rules. We finalized our schedule for the summer. Can’t wait to get riding with the club. I’ve been riding with this club for 45 years. I’m the President this year. The interesting thing about that is that I was the first woman President 40 years ago. My husband was prospecting at the time. He was “accused” of having an “in” with the Prez. Not really, but it was all in good fun.

Wednesday night rides are going to start as soon as I’m back riding. Won’t be long now. They haven’t been doing many of those the last two years when I wasn’t riding. It seems I’m the one the organizes and plans the ride, so if I’m not riding they don’t happen much. I don’t mind doing it and I’ve always taken it on to make sure something gets done, no matter what the event. The general consensus in the group is that I like to organize and tell people what to do. I had to own it and we had a good laugh at my expense. It’s great to be with people that really know you but still want to hang out.
