Life’s Curveballs

It’s important not to beat yourself up for the curve balls life throws at you. This has been one of the top ten hardest lessons for me to learn. You make plans, and then life laughs — they don’t always stick. But that never means give up.
For example, I set out to do a 90-day challenge. And here I am… still not finished. The holidays, kids, sports, three people moving out, rearranging the house, finishing the bathroom (pictures coming when I’m in the mood to share) — all of it has taken priority. Some days, I barely have time to shave my legs. Seriously, hats off to the women who manage every day or every other day. Standing ovation from me. Big Foot and Sasquatch normally feel right at home in my presence. And don’t act like I’m the only one.
But here’s the thing: this all ties back to the squirrels in my dreams. Preparation. Rearranging my home is just a reflection of rearranging my life. Sacrifices happen. Sometimes it means hairy legs in exchange for time, laundry piling up, or walking past your OCD tendencies even as your eye twitches on the way out the door. (Okay, okay, pull that one back in — you’ll need that organizing energy later when you’re tossing out all the things that no longer serve you.)
Because that’s what it comes down to: letting go of everything that doesn’t vibrate with who you are now. The stuff that once mattered but now just feels like clutter. Sentimental or not, you’ve grown. And you don’t need it anymore. That’s the hard part — the mourning. But once you make the choice, the rest is clear. You know what to do.
So short story: life’s curve balls aren’t failures. They’re life aligning you for the next steps. Your job is simply to work with it — to do your part. And while you’re doing that, squeeze in some self-care. Even if it’s just kicking up your feet with Big Foot and Sasquatch over a cup of tea.
Don’t beat yourself up for the days you put dreams aside to handle priorities. And don’t be afraid to reassess those priorities, either. Some things serve a purpose only for a season. Change is okay on every level. Don’t be scared. Just pick up where you left off — and keep going.
