Care and Feeding of Brains, Spicy and Not-So-Spicy

I have loved the writing of Jenny Lawson for seemingly forever. She is funny and quirky and so full of compassion (and a few interesting hobbies and collections). She has written so often about her mental and physical health issues in a way that is approachable and relatable while making you laugh and know that there are other people just like you. Her comment section on her blog, The Bloggess (not a sponsored or an affiliate link, but we'd be happy to have one wink) is also full of kind, thoughtful people just trying to make it through another day.

Her latest book, How to Be Okay When Nothing is Okay, (this one's an affiliate link) is the self-help book you didn't know you needed (though you may have had your suspicions). In it, she shares the tips and tricks that have helped her get through the day even though your brain and/or your body is refusing to play nice. Even better, she read the audiobook, so it's like sitting on the couch with her as she tells you all sorts of stories. Honestly, at this point I would listen to her read a dictionary, because the side-comments would be WORTH IT.

Some days are just shit from beginning to end, and it's nice to have a sympathetic voice in your ear, even if it's from a stranger in Texas and in the form of a book. Just remember, it's never too late to ask for help.

Thank you for the book recommendation. It’s always nice to see others out there going through the things many others are and resources to help out
