Two sides of the coin

Masculine vs. Feminine

Many of you are probably thinking this is a blog about the differences between the two groups, the ongoing battle that comes generation after generation of back and forth. But it’s not. These are simply two sides of the same coin.

Within each of us lives both. Yes, you read that right, both sides live within each of us.

I know that doesn’t sit well with some people the “manly man’s man” out there saying, “That’s bullshit, there ain’t no girly side in me,” or some of the women out there hating the thought and saying, “That’s not true. I can’t stand men or their energy.” Well, I’m not talking about men or women. I’m talking about masculine energy and feminine energy.

One cannot exist without the other. Energetically, no one can truly call themselves masculine or feminine without acknowledging the existence and presence of the other.

Everything in the universe has and needs balance. When this is thrown off, nothing functions properly. I once heard a saying that those who give off the strongest true masculine energy have an incredibly strong feminine energy — and vice versa. It’s simply a matter of embracing it.

Everyone in life is born into one of two biological groups: male or female. From birth, we are groomed and molded by these labels and titles to fit into them, and with that comes the stereotypes for each. If you strictly follow those stereotypes, in my opinion, you begin to suppress the other side — men suppressing the feminine, women suppressing the masculine.

But again, I want to clarify: this is not a gender discussion. This is talking energetically.

I can tell you from experience that when one side is ignored, you become unbalanced, and you begin to suffer. That energetic imbalance can begin to take its toll on a person — the onset of pain from suppressing feelings, physical issues from carrying emotional and energetic weight, the inability to open your mind to new ideas and ways of thinking. You lose yourself.

Balance is the key.

Of the two forces, I do feel that in each and every one of us there is a more dominant side; the side that best suits you and aligns with you. But just because it’s dominant does not mean the suppression of the other. What it means is that one side may be the driving force, but it cannot truly lead without the other.

I have had several discussions about divine masculine and divine feminine energy over the past few years, and the best analogy I’ve found is this:

Think of feminine energy as water, a river perhaps. Masculine energy is like the earth, firm yet forgiving, able to shift when needed.

Now let’s expand on this.

Water (the feminine) flows. It moves around objects in its path. It is a bringer and sustainer of life and inherently gentle in concept. But if not contained, it can become a destructive force, a flood let loose with no control and no direction.

The earth (masculine energy) is solid. It grounds us, gives us a firm place to stand, live, and grow. But it can become dry, arid, barren over time.

Now put the two together and you begin to see the balance.

The earth forms like the banks of a river, gently holding and guiding the water as it flows forward. Helping give direction to the water. Helping keep it focused and flowing so it can bring its power where it needs to be. And the earth, with the gifts from the water, is able to grow life and sustain the world around it.

Are there times when the banks become too narrow as the masculine begins to take over? Sure. But with help from the water, the feminine, and by embracing that help, the banks can widen and allow the water to flow more freely.

On the flip side, are there times when the river overflows as the power of the feminine becomes too strong? Yes. But the earth absorbs the water, helping to redirect it.

I seem to be rambling a bit, so hopefully you get it.

What I’m really trying to say is that there is a balance that needs to exist in everything. Ignoring or crushing one side can lead to disaster and destruction. But embracing both ,learning to utilize the strengths of each ,helps ensure that we are harmonizing within ourselves and with each other.

Yin and yang.

Heads and tails.

Sun and moon.

Balance.

I think if we all do some sitting, some thinking, and a bit of research, we can better understand not only each other, but the battles we fight within ourselves more and more each day.
