Strength in Words


Hi there, it's Pete again.


I hope everyone is doing well now that the holidays have all ended and everyone's schedules are back to normal.


I couldn't really think of anything to write today, so I figured I'd go over a couple of quotes and sayings and stuff that I like. I find these to be rather good. Let's start with the first one. I heard this one from a friend of mine way back in like the late 90s, early 2000s, but it goes like this.


"The willow knows what the storm does not. The power to endure pain outlasts the power to inflict it."

Now, as soon as I heard that, I liked it because I felt it was true because all the crap that I was going through, you know, in school and from everything around me, it kind of gave me that feeling like I could just keep on going. It sounded really profound at the time, believe me. But I like the meaning that it gives that no matter how difficult things might be, it's not enough to break you. No matter what the storm brings, no matter how much the storm tries to, it can't break you. And I think that's pretty powerful. It gives you that extra push to keep on going.


As for my second quote, this one's a little bit longer. This one is called The Man in the Arena. It's an old-ass quote by Theodore Roosevelt, so you'll excuse the verbiage and stuff that they used. But here it goes.


"It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming, but who does actually strive to do the deeds, who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

And I really like that one. It points out that In the end of the day, the critics, the critics can just, well, do things, but The critics aren't the ones who you need to think about. Because all they're doing is sitting in those seats and just throwing down insults. They don't have the strength that you do to put yourself out there. So whenever you need to, remember that the critics may be loud, they might be obnoxious, and they might make you feel like crap, but in the end, they're just nothing. They don't actually run your life. You're the one who makes the choices. If you want to make some changes, it's your prerogative. And if you have critics telling you that you can't do what you want to set out to do, screw them. They're not out here putting themselves out online. No, they're safe at home and throwing shade around. So don't think about them. Be strong.
