On Repeat?

Those of you following along at home have probably noticed a bit of a theme in my blogs. For those of you who haven’t, feel free to look back and give them a read. Many of my posts revolve around the healing journey—the path we each take to get from where we were to where we want, need, or hope to be.

Was this planned? No. The reality is that it’s simply what resonates with me right now. One thing I’ve learned is that when something resonates with you, it’s worth taking a moment to sit with it—there’s usually a reason for it.

As for the blogs focusing so much on the path and the journey, that comes from another side of me: I’m very goal-oriented. I like to see the end goal and then plan a path to get from where I am to where I want to be. Often it’s a well-laid-out and deliberate route. Many times the obstacles are known, can be accounted for, or at least anticipated.

What I’ve learned about the healing journey, though, is that this isn’t how it works—and that was something I struggled with at first.

You could say, “What do you mean? The end goal is to be healed.” In a way, yes—but no one is ever truly finished healing, and no one really knows what lies ahead. When you first start down the path, there are countless unknowns. You don’t know what will surface that you’ll need to sit with, what old wounds or habits might try to pull you back in, or how the people around you will react to the changes you’re making. There’s a lot of uncertainty, and that’s why many of my blogs have focused here.

Letting go of the need for an exact plan was difficult. I had to learn to trust my intuition and move the logical side of my mind out of the way. Thoughts like, Why that thought? Why now? came up often—and still do at times. My logic-driven brain wanted explanations, but in reality it was only clouding things.

I’ve had to learn that you can’t approach healing like you’re planning a random road trip out west. There are no scheduled rest stops, no paved roads with signs pointing the way. Instead, it’s about following your heart, your gut, and your spirit, and trusting them to help you interpret what comes up along the way.

So where was I going with all this? Right—the blogs about the journey. As I said, this is what resonates most with me right now: not fully knowing where the path will lead, not always being able to logic my way through things, and learning to navigate the ups and downs. It’s an interesting thing to sit with as you travel forward, never quite knowing when the next turn, curve, or breakdown will appear.

Until next time, safe travels down your path.
