Today’s blog is brought to you by the letter wh“Y”.
Wh”y” are you doing this?
Wh”y” do it differently?
WH”y” keep going?
Wh”y” is this important?
There are a lot of “whys” in life. People always questioning, wanting to know more about something, wanting to figure out their confusion. It’s one of the basic question words that are learned very early. Toddlers always asking why. Kids playing the why game to try and get a rise out of siblings and parents. Its uses are numerous. Then add the different tones and ways it can be asked to range from curiosity to anger and questioning and everything in between.
Next to “what?” It’s probably the most asked question I hear on a daily basis and especially when it comes to Clearview Works.
Why are you doing this? That’s a very common one. I for one am doing it because I feel drawn to it. I have talked in other blogs about my calling to help others. From a young age this has always been something I do. People, animals, it doesn’t matter, I have always enjoyed helping others, sometimes to a fault as my past has shown me. But lessons learned, and through growth have learned that it’s often better to help others by showing and helping them learn how to help themselves. So why am I doing this, I want to help people learn how to grow, heal, and be able to become the best them they can be.
Why are you doing it this way? Well the answer is and isn’t easy. The easy answer is cause it’s who we are. But the real answer is far more complicated. The current systems in place and traditional systems have some levels of success but have limitations. The success rate for rehabilitation and for breaking the cycles of abuse and trauma vary but over all have fairly low success rates. So why not try it differently, why not take the knowledge and experience of those that have gone through abuse and trauma and use it to try and break the mold, look at it from a different angle. Take a more holistic and natural healing approach to something that is often done by a sterile and rigid system. The current systems in place have flaws, so why not take something that shows it has flaws and modify it to address those. Am I saying the programs and things we want to put into place and practice are perfect, no. But coming at it from the healing perspective we want to, I feel, will help address many of the issues a traditional style institution and system can not fix.
This is going to be hard building every thing from scratch, why keep going? Like I stated before, I am drawn to and called to do this. I continue to push forward to help others and help them help themselves. The team of Clearview Works has overcome so many obstacles both in personal lives as well as with the nonprofit. We may get knocked back but we wipe away the tears, dust off our pants, pull up our boot straps and take the next step forward. We are all fighting our own demons along the way but we don’t back down. Giving up is not an option and the rewarding future of helping those who seek our help is an amazing thing to think about.
Why is this so important? Each of us have our own thoughts in this. For some of us it’s a dream becoming reality, others a chance to be someone they never had in their own lives, for all of us a personal journey down the healing path that allows us to help others along the way. We are all in this for different reasons but all have one goal, help others and in ways help ourselves.
Wh”y” is a very loaded question that can carry many different meanings. Sometimes you get a short basic answer, others a long winding rabbit hole. You never really know where it’s going to go, but don’t let it scare you. Don’t be afraid to ask the question, sometimes the answer will surprise you and make you think.
